Last Day in Hamburg
Today is our last day of urlaub. We got up, and went for a long walk around the Aussenalster. The Aussenalster is a series of 1 small lake and 1 larger lake. It is approximately 10 km to walk around the whole thing plus another km from our hotel to the start. It is a beautiful morning. The sun is shinning and it is warm enough to be out without a jacket and in shorts. We start off and not too many people about the first 30 minutes but by 8am, there are a lot of people running or walking around the lake. There are some beautiful large homes and apartments located around the lake. The US Consulate is also located there among the houses. It has 2 posted guards and fences to keep you from driving by in a car. Maybe that is to keep "car bombers" away. After our walk (it took about 2 hours), we went and got fresh orange juice and pastries for breakfast. Then it was time to pack and walk to the train station. The roads were blocked off for a bicycle race and it was hard for taxi's to get around so we decided to walk the 1.5 km to the train. We boarded the train which left 15 minutes late. This is significant because we only had 15 minutes at the next train station to change trains and get back to Zoologischer Gartens. We missed the train by 30 seconds and had to take the S Bahn back, which was no big deal. We arrived home safe and tired. We had a great time seeing the city.
